When the Hunt Begins and the Coffee Is Still Warm
I sit in the sun with a cup of coffee in my hand, the saw still resting against the woodpile. It’s one of those moments when the day feels like it’s holding its breath – everything is quiet, yet full of movement at the same time.
A Quiet Morning at the Cabin While the Moose Hunt Begins
Then it happens. A hunting dog, grey-coated with a GPS collar, steps onto the yard as if walking straight through someone’s living room. It barely glances at me. It’s working.
A quiet yard, a working dog
Not long after, it echoes – a rifle shot somewhere deep in the forest. Moose hunting has begun. Maybe they’ve already picked up a trail.

Own Picture:
Maybe, right now, a moose is moving softly through young pines and birch thickets a few hundred meters away. I look around and remember how a moose stood calmly here on the yard just the other day, as if it didn’t mind sharing the space.
Living inside nature
It’s strange how quickly one adapts to the fact that nature here isn’t something you visit – it’s something you live inside. The gunshots in the woods become as familiar as the warmth of the coffee cup.
Dogs move like small shadows through the terrain; hunters stand scattered and listening. You become a still spectator to something ancient – a drama older than roads, older than machines, older than the very idea of “free time.”
Between two worlds
You sit there, in it but not of it. Between two worlds: the comforting smell of coffee and sunlight warming your sleeve – and in the distance, pulse, instinct, and old tradition unfolding among the trees.
The moose hunt has begun, and the coffee is still warm.
